For party people in Panama, one of the main places to go dance, have some drinks and chill out is the Pub Herrerano, commonly known by its initials as PH. The Pub Herrerano, at its very basic is a mobile discotheque. Its creators, the Varela brothers originally used it to promote its brands, however since its opening in 1992; it has become a synonym with party in Panama. Anytime there are big outdoor events such as concerts or fairs and of course, during carnavales, you can count on having one nearby.

People go to the Pub Herrerano for the after party. In the case of fairs and carnavales, you can walk in anytime you want to have a couple drinks or dance a bit. During the Panama carnavales, it’s the place where everyone wants to be in. The music is mostly reggae with some merengue and electronic mixed in. If you don’t want to fetch your own drinks, there is a VIP area in which a waiter will serve you the drinks. Inside, you will likely listen to some live music, courtesy of invited artists. If you’re having a great time, be warned you may see your face on their huge screens! To summarize if you are in to party for the Panama Carnavales and will be in interior of the country, you should definitely check the Pub Herrerano out. Cover fee is $40.00 and gives you access to all 5 locations (Las Tablas, Chitré, Penonomé, Aguadulce and Santiago).

Carnavals in Panama 2010The Carnavals in Panama are hands down one of the most anticipated events in the world. It’s a party you don’t want to miss out on and best of all, it’s a cheap trip. If you’re planning on travelling to Panama for these 2010 carnavals, there are two ways in doing this. You either stay in the city or head out into what the locals call the “interior” of the country.

For this post, I’m focusing on the city portion of the carnavals, located in Via España, one of the several main streets of the country.
Being the second largest festival in the world, you might want to know where to go and what to do before the festivities are over.

Carnavals officially begin on Friday and end on Tuesday before “Ash Wednesday”. Carnavals in Panama are best known for having fire trucks shoot water at people as they pass by, this is known as “culecos”. You might want to be in the middle of Via España by 10 AM so you can catch these famous culecos, it’s definitely a must do.

If you like dancing or enjoy reggae/rap music, you’ll hear a lot of that no matter where you are in the country. Rappers like Mach & Daddy are going to be mixing most of their hits during the first two days of carnavals. You also might want to try going to Omar Park, located ten minutes away from Via España.

Los Reyes del Pasa Pasa are going to be there playing their famous Pasa Pasa dance, you don’t want to miss that.
Don’t worry about eating street food; it’s safe but pricey compared to normal days in the city. Brochettes can cost up to $2 and soda goes for $1, expensive based on Panamanian standards but tasty nonetheless. I’ve seen a lot of people take their own snacks; you could save some cash by doing that.
If you’re partying in the city, have lots of fun and always be safe, you don’t want miss out on Panama Carnavals.

You should check out the Panama Canal Museum at the Miraflores Visitors Center. At the Miraflores locks you will find the Canal´s 4-story museum. It will show you most everything you need to know about Panama and the Canal. The best thing to do first is to watch one of the movie presentations in the theatre on the ground floor. The theatre presentations are divided for English and Spanish speaking people. Then I suggest you move on to the actual Museum. There are four different exhibition halls: The History Hall, The Hall of Water, The Canal in Action, and finally, The Canal in the World. After you get thru one floor of the museum, you take an escalator up to the next floor, and it goes on for several floors.

Not only does the Panama Canal Museum talk about and exhibit information related to the construction of the Canal, but it educates you about other exceptional things that Panama offers. For instance, the flora and fauna in Panama is very unique. Many species are not found anywhere else in the world. Additionally, in one of the several floors of the museum, one can enjoy the experience of a ship Captain going thru the canal. There is a simulator that helps enhance the experience. It makes you feel like you are actually controlling a giant ship. It is best when no one else is around, so you can control it yourself. If other people are in there then it is difficult to control because too many people are crowded in it and do not even know that it is a simulator. In that case you are out of luck. I have been to the Canal Museum when it is empty and when it is full. It is much better empty. You get to do more things without a herd of people around you, pushing you around. But every time I have gone it has been a Saturday, so you can never really tell what the outcome is until you get there.

There are several outdoor observation decks where you can get a close view of the ships as they navigate thru the canal. And there are also a couple of snack bars, a gift shop, and a nice restaurant with a great view! The visitor center offers a partial package and a complete package. For resident adults the complete package is $3.00 USD and the partial package is FREE. For non-resident adults the complete package is only $8.00 USD and the partial package is $5.00 USD. It is definitely worth getting the complete package because it includes the theatre presentation and exhibit halls. The Panama Canal Museum is an enjoyable, educational activity for children and adults!

“Moods” is a relatively classic discotheque in Panama. Since it’s opening around 3 years ago, it has become the usual place for many Panama party-goers. It has both regular and VIP areas. The VIP is on the second floor, right in front of the stage, where many bands cover popular songs to gain exposure. There is an additional area at the side, called the “Moods Bar”. Here you’ll find more tables than dance floor area, suited for drinking with friends. “Moods Panama” has quite accessible prices; the cover fee is usually from 5 to 10 dollars. Inside, the drinks are also reasonably priced.

To party in the “Moods Panama” VIP area, a bottle of liquor must be purchased, which is usually priced higher than in the regular area. You can also reserve tables or the VIP area in advance for private parties. A purchase of a few bottles is usually required and to leave the names of the party attendees. It’s seriously recommended that you visit “Moods Panama”. It has great ambience, the music is really varied and of course lots of good looking Panama girls. The party in Panama City starts early, but if you’re feeling tired from all the dancing in “Moods Panama”, step into the “Moods Bar” take a seat and enjoy a couple of beers to calm down.

There were a lot of expectations for this friendly soccer game between Panama and Argentina. The Panamanian soccer team played very well in the first half of the match against the argentinian squad despite of the pressure that the argentinians were putting on the ball. At the 27th minute, striker Matias De Federico scored the first goal for the South American team. However, two minutes later the Panamanian Nelson Barahona silenced the stadium crowd by scoring a long distance goal. Maradona´s facial expression changed dramatically after seeing his goalie being beaten. Things got level and the game turned to be more interesting. Just before the end of the first half, striker Gonzalo Bergessio headed the ball into the net after a corner kick taken by Matias De Federico.
