Their concert in Panama will be among the six presentations of the legendary band in whole Central America. This tour will be promoting their latest album: Death Magnetic which has already achieved platinum status with over a million sales. The event will be at the Figali Convention Plaza on March 8th, starting at 8:30 pm. This will be the first time Metallica plays in our country. She is the front woman of Ritmos Santeños, a Panamanian folk’s music group. After we all introduce ourselves to everyone, we when to explore the playground. It was not the usual paintball field with wooden barricade where you could hide from the enemy, Oh no. This looked more like a real jungle! No artificial place to hide, just bamboo trees, plantain trees, and all kind of natural barriers. Two groups were formed: the red team and the yellow team and a referee for each group. We walked to the middle of the field and at the blast of the horn we ran to hide. First, there was no movement at all, an eerie feeling was in the silence and then, bang, the fire started. I couldn’t really see what was going on because every time I breathe my mask would fog up. My partner yelled we have to move if we want to win. One by one they moved to the front, while two of us stay behind and cover them. Two girls ran forward, one went around the bamboo trees and close to the river. The adrenaline was rushing through my whole body and I could hear my heart beat in my head. The girls running forward got kill. I saw two yellow team members right in front of me hiding behind a makeshift barricade. It was now or never, so I ran forward trying to stay low, shooting and avoiding the cross fire! I know I’m wild. And it pay off, I got two yellow girls off, sweet! At this point the entire battle has been going on for no more than 10 minutes and I was exhausted. My legs felt like they were made from rubber, and the heath was bothering me. Some more fire was exchange and finally the horn announced the end of the battle. What a rush! The red team won the first round.

I was a little reluctant to go to this place because it’s something I have never done before; I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it. I WAS WRONG! Once again, my friends proved me they know how to pick a good spot to hang out. Alright, so it was Friday. You know, last working day of the week. Everyone was tired! After a long week of work we didn’t want to do anything but go back to sleep and rest. I complaint all day long of how tired I was; of course, I had only slept 3 hours the day before (but that’s another story). When it came close to the end of the day everyone (especially me) was like, “come on, it’s the weekend we can’t just go back to sleep…” We didn’t agree on anything until the last minute. Luckily, everyone was hungry. It was a start. When everyone feels hungry you have to go out or do something, right? We agreed to go out for dinner. So, I left the office on time that night. A little later, we all met in a restaurant around my office. We had pizza. It was really good. We finished eating and started to discuss what we wanted to do later. Many options came up; I just wanted to party. Some of us wanted to go to a bar, but few of them wanted to try a place they’ve heard before. It was a strip club. Guess what? We ended up going. Don’t ask why, we just did. So we went to the strip club. Yes, yes a strip club or also known as gentlemen’s club. One of those places with lots of girls in Panama City, Panama, who are not necessarily watching the show, but doing it. Girls doing striptease and lap dances. My friends and I went to Gorilla and had an amazing experience from the first moment we walked in. After the danced contested finished we were already in our third round of drinks. The DJ started playing different kinds of music: Reggaeton, salsa, típico (panama`s cultural music), merengue, pop, etc. We started dancing like crazy. There were many panama women dancing and enjoying the music just like us. A while later they started the karaoke contest again. All the contestants had to go to the DJ cabin and tell him their names and what song they were going to sing. I pushed my friend to go up and sing, but she didn´t want to. Then the host announced that the winner will win a bottle of rum and the audience got to pick the winner. So she finally decided to go sing and one of my other friends wanted to try it too so she went with her. I didn’t go because I can’t sing (only on the shower), but they both sang really well. Many people did too. I was surprised by all the talent showed in that contest, of course, there were some of them singing off-key, but most of them did an amazing job. The Rockin’ Gorilla (just simply called Gorilla by the people) is centrally located at Via Argentina in Panama City. Gorilla is a restaurant, a bar, night club, and a dance club so it’s ideal for any occasion. They have a huge variety of food that you can enjoy with their broad selection of imported and national beers, mixed drinks (cocktails), wine and hard liquors in a very friendly atmosphere. One night, I called my girlfriends and asked them to go out with me. I wanted to go out to relieve all the stress from the week. So, I went to pick them up and as we were driving around we saw Gorilla. I have never heard of this place before, but one of my friends did so the rest of us decided to give it a shot. As we were approaching to the place, I saw a lot of guys and girls just hanging outside. They have a patio were you can sit and enjoy the fresh air, have a cigarette if you want to, and of course drink, eat, and listen to the music that is playing from inside. We finally walked in; the place was pretty crowded but not over-crowded. We didn’t have a problem to find a table. We sat down and a waiter immediately came to take our orders. It was already 11:00pm so we were not going to eat, but we were going to drink! We didn’t know what to order so the waiter explained to us their drink special. They had “cubetazos” (buckets of beers) of national beers. My friends ordered one, but I’m not a fan of beers so I ordered myself a Mai-tai. While we were waiting for our drinks, they started a karaoke contest. Only a couple of people went up and sang, so they decided to stop it for a while. Then they started a dance contest. The host asked for four guys to volunteer to the contest. They all went up, danced and followed all the directions from the host. As always, there was one guy that stole the show. Everyone was applauding him. Then the host asked for the contestants to find a partner. Once again they started dancing and followed the host’s directions. The one guy that stole the show dancing alone did it one more time. He started doing crazy things so his partner followed. She started to dance in a very sexy way and everyone was enjoying the show. The show finally ended and of course the crazy, provocative, sexual coupled won. It was an amazing Latin night, a crazy and wild party, a real Panamanian party. Akon is coming to Panama City! On Wednesday January 20, Akon will be at Figaly Convention Center. Akon is the son of jazz percussionist Mor Thiam. Akon became famous in 2004 with the hit song “Locked up”. In 2005, he consolidated his position as an international star with the singles “I Wanna Love You” and “Smack That”. He also collaborated with other recording artists like Young Jeezy, Eminem, Snoop Dog, and Gwen Stefani. Today, Akon has 6 Grammy Awards nominations, and he has produced hits for singers like Leona Lewis, Lady Gaga, and T-Pain.
Two weeks ago, I woke up early on Sunday to go try a new kind of party in Panama I never experience before. An only girl’s paintball game was organized to host 13 wild girls ready to shoot. Most of us were new at this, so we were a little scare of what was coming. Some girls were very prepared to party here with gear, padding, special shoes, extra clothes, food, and even electric paintballs. Me, I was only wearing workout clothes: a plain t-shirt, sneakers, and leggings. I was thinking I wasn’t going to last but 5 minutes! Let say, if there was a war, I’m dead woman.
Even a small river was there! We were thrill and ready to play! We got our gear and an explanation for us first timers to party with paintball. We learned if your paint bullets get wet, you can’t get it back in to use because it won’t work. Best places to shoot without hurting the opponent badly, we were girls and we didn’t want to have a black eye on Monday! And the best advice: never take your mask off! You can loose and eye if you get shot in your face. If you must take it off to clean the moist of your face, then laid down face to the ground and take it off.
The rest of the afternoon when by fast while another round was play in the rain, and finally one last game with the flag was play. We have a blast playing like wild guerrilla girls, we made new friends, and we can’t wait to do it again. Who knew we could have this kind of fun right in Panama City. We talked about what a great idea to have a birthday party war theme here, and we learned that companies have their own private party where they bring their employees to play. Now we are all waiting for the next wild party.
